We the people of the United States
In order to form a more perfect union
Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility
Provide for the common defense
Promote the general welfare
And secure the blessings of liberty
To ourselves and our posterity
Do ordain and establish
Ordain and establish
This Constitution
For the United States of America!

Our Republic

OUR REPUBLIC
Copyright 2022
Susan Allderdge

This is what makes our Country a republic
Dividing powers helps make us free
In America the people are sovereign
And rule by law is an important key
For the Constitution protects each and every person’s rights
Our leaders pledge to follow every word
Then we elect and speak to Representatives
That way each voice is heard
This is what makes our Country a republic
We must protect our Country’s republic
For these governing laws protect both you and me

TIPS: Group speaking is a lot like singing a song. Speak the same speed as the voice on the recording. When the voice goes up, you go up, when the voice goes down, you go down. Emphasize underlined words and pause whenever there is a period or a comma. Listen to it phrase by phrase while looking at the words, then try speaking the phrase. A video is provided helping the students learn their parts, taking most of the work out of it for the teachers. There is also a video showing how simple it is to direct group speech. Your hands will keep the students together.

Checks and Balances

CHECKS AND BALANCES
Copyright 2022
Susan Alldredge

Part 1 Our governing power is divided into three branches. This separation helps
insure that the balance of power stays with the people
Legislative makes the laws, Senate, and the House
Part 2 Legislative leaders are elected by the people. The Senate and House
together are called congress.
Who carries out the law? Executive! Keeps America safe from harm
Part 3 The Executive is our president. He’s chosen by our electoral college, meets
with other nations, and leads our military.
Judicial interprets laws, Supreme Court
Part 4 Judges are chosen by the President, approved by congress, and are in the
highest court in America.
Checks and Balances (Repeated)
Part 5 These 3 branches check on each other to help protect us from tyranny. They
limit, separate, and balance the powers of government.
(parts start layering
Part 6 Each branch plays their own unique part at the same time. This helps create
the sweet music of liberty and self-governance.
